Book Review: 1632 (Ring of Fire book #1)

1632 by Eric Flint, was a book that I recently found as I was looking through the library app for something interesting Sci-fi to read.  It doesn't fit into the sub-genres that I usually look for, but I found it to be a fun read.
The book starts out in the modern age. The opening scene takes place in a small town called Grantville in West Virginia. A wedding is underway and a few out of towners are gathered with the locals celebrating the wedding. All is as it should be until everything changes, for good.
The power to the town goes out and a what is described as a ring of fire is seen by some in the sky.  A group goes to investigate a finds the road to town has been cut.  The group saves a farmgirl and her mother from oddly dressed solders. The group of small town miners and farmers meet out some good ole fashioned American justice.
Later the townspeople find out that the entire town has been transported to Europe in the middle of The Thirty Years War. They all have to come together and learn how survive and ultimately thrive in a time without conveniences and in the middle of a land in turmoil.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book.  The town has to learn how to re-engineer many of the things like electricity and running water and the author walks the reader through the towns process of using the resources available in the 1600s.  All the while defending themselves from armies that are intent on destroying the new town.
All in all I give it a solid four of five rocket ships.  πŸš€πŸš€πŸš€πŸš€  Its definitely in the books that I recommend to read.
